Getting the wattage right for a bathroom heater is basically a balancing act. You’re trying to figure out how much heat you need versus how much is escaping through the walls and vents. If you go way too heavy on the power in a tiny room, you’ll end up with annoying hotspots and a wasted electric bill. But if you go too light? You’re just standing there shivering until the moment you leave. No one wants that. Finding the right fit Think about the size of the room first. For a tiny powder room—something under 3m²—a single 250W to 400W shortwave lamp usually does the trick. These are great because the heat hits your skin instantly. It doesn’t bother warming up the air first; it just goes straight to you. Once you move into medium bathrooms (around 4m² to 7m²), you’ll want to bump that up to 600W or 800W. For those big master baths over 8m², here’s a pro tip: don’t just buy one massive 1200W unit. It’s way better to use a few smaller lamps—maybe three 400W units—spread out across the ceiling. It keeps the whole room cozy and stops those annoying “cold zones” from popping up in the corners. Intensity vs. Comfort More wattage means more heat, obviously. But there’s a catch. A 1000W lamp will warm things up fast, but if you’re standing right under it at the mirror, it can feel way too intense. It’s almost like being too close to a campfire. You want a steady warmth, not a scorched feeling.
