
Making Bathroom Heaters That Actually Make Sense
Let’s be honest: heating a bathroom is a bit of a nightmare from an engineering perspective. You need a ton of heat, but you’re doing it in a room full of steam and water. It’s a tricky balance. We wanted to build an IP65 infrared heater that actually works without making you feel like you’re standing under a stadium floodlight. The “Blinding Light” Problem Ever used one of those cheap halogen heaters? They’re brutal. They blast you with this harsh, blinding glare that’s honestly a bit scary, especially if you’re bathing a baby or just waking up. We hated that. So, we added specific filters and coated quartz glass to the lamps. It basically tweaks the light so you get all the cozy warmth on your skin, but the glare disappears. You get the heat, but you can actually keep your eyes open. Keeping the Water Out (And the Heat Moving) Water and electricity are a terrible mix. To keep things safe, we built these to IP65 standards. In plain English? The housing is totally dust-tight and can handle a spray of water without breaking a sweat. We use high-temp silicone gaskets to seal everything up tight. But here’s the catch: when you seal a heater that tightly to keep water out, the inside can turn into an oven. If the internal parts bake, they burn out. To stop that, we used aluminum heat sinks. They pull the heat away from the wiring and push it out through the chassis, so the guts of the machine stay cool while you stay warm. A Few Things to Know Before You Install We used standard connectors, so these should slide right into your existing fixtures without a fuss. One quick heads-up, though. Because of those eye-protection coatings, you lose a tiny bit of raw wattage. It might take a few seconds longer to hit peak temperature, but it’s a trade-off we’re happy with for the sake of safety. Also, if you’re installing a bunch of these on one line, just double-check your circuit breaker. Halogen filaments have a big “inrush current” the moment they click on. If your system is already pushed to the limit, you might find yourself tripping the breaker during the warm-up. Just a little something to keep in mind before you start wiring.
