
Getting the Heat Right in Bathroom Infrared Lamps
When you’re designing a heating lamp for a bathroom, you’re dealing with a tricky balance. You want the room to feel warm immediately, but you can’t just blast heat everywhere. Think about it: you aren’t just warming up a tiled room. You’re warming up a person. And if there’s a baby in the picture, things get even more sensitive. You can’t have a blinding glare hitting an infant’s eyes. That’s a huge safety concern that we have to solve before the lamp even leaves the factory. The light problem Most short-wave infrared lamps are, frankly, blinding. They put out this harsh white light that makes you want to squint. To fix this, we tweak the spectral output. We play around with the tungsten filament temperature and use a special kind of quartz glass. It filters out those aggressive light peaks. The result? A “soft light.” You still get all that cozy thermal energy hitting the skin, but without the eye strain. It feels natural, not like you’re under a stadium spotlight. Dealing with the steam Bathrooms are wet. Really wet. If moisture touches the filament, the lamp is toast. To stop that from happening, we seal the quartz envelopes tight. We also make sure the housing is rated IPX4 or better, so the humidity doesn’t creep in. Plus, we use reflectors that don’t corrode, which keeps the heat pushing down toward the floor instead of letting it soak into your ceiling. Getting the install right These lamps are great because the heat is instant. But that heat is concentrated. If you hang the lamp too low, it’s too hot—you risk actually burning someone. Too high, and the heat just vanishes into the air before it ever reaches the person. You have to pick your mounting height based on the wattage. A 250W lamp needs a totally different gap than a 500W unit if you want the surface temperature to stay safe. One last tip: wire these into their own dedicated circuit. Use a moisture-proof switch, too. It’s the only way to make sure things don’t short out when the room gets steamed up.
