
Keeping Things Safe: Why We Use Explosion-Proof Quartz in Wet Zones
Putting an infrared heater in a shower or bathroom is a bit of a gamble. You’ve got high-voltage electricity and water in the same room. Most standard heaters just can’t hack it. That’s why we lean on IP55-rated enclosures and explosion-proof quartz tubes. It’s basically our way of making sure a stray splash of water doesn’t turn into a disaster.
The “Pop” Factor
Here is the thing about thermal shock: if a cold drop of water hits a quartz tube sitting at 600°C, it doesn’t just sizzle. It shatters. We use explosion-proof quartz because it can handle those wild temperature swings without cracking. And if a tube does happen to give out? The design keeps the glass fragments locked inside the housing. No shards falling on you while you’re trying to dry off.
Dealing with the Steam
You’ll see the IP55 rating on the spec sheet. In plain English, that means the unit can take a hit from dust and water jets from any angle. But we go a step further. We don’t just seal the box; we isolate the electrical terminals. When a bathroom hits 100% humidity and everything is dripping, this is what stops the electricity from jumping where it shouldn’t.
The Trade-off
Infrared heat is amazing because it’s instant. It doesn’t waste time warming up the air; it goes straight for your skin. It feels great, but there’s a catch. The tube surface gets incredibly hot. You have to get the mounting height and the guard grills just right. If it’s too low, you could get a burn before you even realize the heat is too intense.
Getting it Installed
We’ve made these easy to swap into existing bathroom circuits. Just a couple of things to watch out for: First, double-check that your wiring can handle the lamp’s wattage. You don’t want your junction box overheating. And please, use high-temp silicone wiring for the internal leads. Standard insulation can melt during long heating cycles, and nobody wants a short circuit in their ceiling.
