
Getting the Heat Right Without the Blinding Glare
Most bathroom infrared heaters use short-wave radiation because it’s the fastest way to feel warm. But there’s a catch: the glare. Standard halogen tubes put out a ton of visible light and UV. It’s harsh. If you’ve ever looked at one, you know it strains your eyes. It’s even worse for babies, whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours. We figured out a better way to handle this by shifting how the light actually works. Cutting the glare, keeping the warmth To keep your eyes safe, we use coated quartz tubes or specific gas fills. Think of it like a filter that blocks out those annoying, blinding frequencies. We push the energy into the infrared band instead. This means the heat hits your skin directly, but you aren’t staring into a bright white spotlight while you’re trying to relax. You get that immediate “thermal punch” without the headache. The nuts and bolts We’re pretty picky about the wattage. We want the heater to warm up fast, but we don’t want it to eat your electricity bill. By using high-purity quartz, the filament can run hotter, which makes the whole thing more efficient. Plus, we use standard connectors, so you can just pop these into most existing housings without a fight. Now, there is a small trade-off. Adding that spectral filter means a tiny bit of heat doesn’t make it through compared to a clear tube. You lose a sliver of raw power to make sure the light is safe for your eyes. It’s a small price to pay, but it’s something to keep in mind when you’re picking a heater for a larger room. Setting it up for success When you’re wiring these in, make sure your reflector is polished aluminum. If it’s dull, you’re basically wasting that filtered energy, which forces the lamp to work harder and kills the filament faster. Also, give it some breathing room. If the housing traps too much heat, the quartz tube can get stressed and eventually crack. Just keep the area clear so the heat can flow exactly where it’s supposed to.
